Survey Dynamics are providing Rio Tinto’s Greater Paraburdoo hub survey support for their waste dump rehabilitation project. We are assisting with the construction of geomorphic terrain modelling and the implementation of key conformance attributes to ensure rehabilitated dumps weather and grow over a projected 300 years, transitioning the landscape. The work areas are spread throughout the Paraburdoo and Channar Mine Operations and are all within approximately a 45-minute drive from the Paraburdoo townsite. Survey are crucial to the project team from initial control set up and validation of digital surfaces, by way of drone flights, through to machine control, volume calculations and conformance reporting. The process begins with heavy dozer bulk pushing from the tip-to design to the reshape model. Precise trimming is performed throughout the dump terrain. Drainage backslopes, crest bunds and water cell containment bunds are constructed enabling an absorption coefficient. Topsoil is then spread at a nominal consistency guaranteeing the rich nutrients needed are available. The process then is to rip the ground and seed with various native species to return the area back to a habitable environment.
