The Ord Irrigation Expansion Project is a State Government initiative to realise the full potential of available resources in the East Kimberley to create a vibrant and major regional centre. It will increase the size of the Ord irrigation area to about 22,000ha of agricultural land, which will provide major opportunities for growth and sustainability for the region’s economic and social development.
The Department of Regional Development and Lands is administering the implementation of the project. LandCorp awarded the first major construction contract on 15 March 2010. The successful proponent is a joint venture between Leighton Contractors / Indigenous Business Australia (IBA). The contract includes building 19km of irrigation channel, a 14km road extension and irrigation control structures.
Survey Dynamics have been contracted to complete all surveying works on this project including set out, design, line and level, as well as machine guidance on over 40 machines on site
