Principal: Rio Tinto
Client: Eastern Guruma
Location: Newman, Western Australia
Status: In-Progress
Survey Dynamics are currently supporting Eastern Guruma on Rio Tinto’s West Angelas Deposit C site for the rehabilitation of a waste dump, located approximately 1.5 hours Northwest of Newman. This project is one of several Survey Dynamics have been involved with in the region, including the successful completion of Deposit B East Waste Dump in 2024.
We are delivering comprehensive survey support services including drone flights, machine control setup, conformance reporting, surface validation, design creation and adjustment, progress reporting, and the production of visualisation imagery and videos.
The rehabilitation process begins with dozers bulk pushing from the top down. Where push distances are excessive, tip heads are constructed to allow for efficient haul truck access for removal to lower slopes requiring fill material. Dozers then trim the slopes to match the reshape model. Haul trucks deliver topsoil to each slope, where it is spread and trimmed by dozers. Crest bunds & toe bunds are integrated into the design, and drainage backslopes are constructed. The final stages involve ripping and seeding the slopes and flat areas.
The objective is to rehabilitate the cleared areas into a safe, stable, and non-polluting landform — vegetated with native species of local provenance — to enhance both environmental and cultural heritage outcomes. The result will be a landform that is compatible with the surrounding and future post-mining land uses.
